Petroleum has proven to be the most important mineral resource in Nigeria. It was discovered first in 1959 in Bayelsa state. we have millions of barrels of crude oil produced every day. However, oil can only be found in a few states which are: Abia state, Bayelsa state, Rivers state, Delta state, Akwa ibom state, Ondo state, Imo state, Edo state. in Nigeria, we also have four refineries for crude oil.

12. BARYTE AND BENTONITE

Baryte and Bentonite are the major parts of muds that are essential in drilling oil wells. There are about 700 million tonnes of barite and bentonite but they can only be found in a few states in Nigeria. They are: Borno state, Plateau state and Adamawa state.
