Simisola Bolatito Kosoko (born April 19, 1988), who goes by the stage name, Simi, is an iconic Nigerian singer, songwriter, sound engineer, and actress.

Starting out as a gospel artist, Simi switched to the Afro-pop genre and became a famous star after the release of the single, Tiff.

The single helped her secure a spot in the music label, X3M Music, owned by Steve Baboeko.

During her time at the label, Simi released her second studio album, Simisola, in 2017.

The album, which did great numbers locally and internationally, helped Simi build a large fanbase.

The 34-year-old Simi is married to Afrobeats singer, Adekunle Gold.

Simi Early Life

Simi was born to Yoruba parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Oladele Ogunleye, on the 19th Of April 2021. She hails from a Christian family and was given the name, Simisola Bolatito.

She was birthed and raised up in the Ojuelegba district of Surulere, Lagos. She spent her early years living in her parents’ apartment, but she stayed with her mother when her parents separated. She was barely nine at the moment.

Despite the absence of a father, Simi‘s mother worked hard to ensure that she didn’t lack any good things, sending her to the top private schools for her education.

Growing up, Simi couldn’t hide her musical talent as she had a sonorous voice that was displayed whenever she sang popular songs. So she joined the choir quite early and focused on making gospel music.

As a result, her debut studio album, Ogaju, is a gospel-themed project. After that, however, she changed her perspective and decided to switch to mainstream because she felt that it would help her connect with a larger audience.

Towards the end of the year 2013, Simi began working on an EP. She released the five-track project in January 2014. The EP’s most successful single, Tiff, earned her celebrity status as many people took notice of her talent and became her fans. In addition, the EP set the pace for her to sign a record deal with X3M Music.

Her hit single, Jamb Question, which was released in 2016, was a massive hit, topping music charts for weeks. For the remix of the song, she collaborated with rapper, Falz. Thereafter, she dropped the love song, Love Don’t Care, which also did tremendous numbers. Alongside her colleague and friend, Falz, she worked on an EP titled Chemistry, which was a huge success.

Simi‘s second studio album titled Simisola was released in 2017. The project, which has twelve tracks, features hit songs such as JoromiSmile For MeGone For Good, and Aimasiko. Few days after its release, the album made it to the number five position on Billboard World Albums Chart.

The following two years saw Simi work on her third studio album, which was released on the 19th Of April 2020. The release date coincided with her 31st Birthday. The album, which is a mix of Afro-fusion, Afro-pop, R&B, and Afro-soul genres, is titled Omo Charlie Champagne, Vol 1., and has thirteen tracks.

After the expiration of her record deal with X3M deal in 2019, Simi chose not to renew her contract and instead opted to found her own record label, which she named, Studio Brat. In 2020, she was the buzz of the industry after she released her famous song, Duduke. The song, which was released to celebrate the birth of her daughter, was one of the most played songs of the year.
