List Of Power Transmission Stations In Nigeria. During the last 45 years, Nigeria’s electricity production has ranged from gas-, oil-, and hydropower -fired stations to coal-fired plants. Here you can see where they are in relation to one another, as well as the amount of power they can produce.
Introduction

Nigerian Power Transmission Station
In 1886, two (2) generating sets were put in place to service the Lagos Colony in Nigeria. In 1951, the Electricity Corporation of Nigeria (ECN) and the Niger Dams Authority (NDA) were founded for hydroelectric power production by an Act of Parliament. In 1972, the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) was formed after the merging of the two (2) organizations, and it was given the task of producing, transmitting, and distributing power across the nation. NEPA was de-bundled and renamed Power Holding Company of Nigeria in 2005 as part of Nigeria’s power sector reform (PHCN).
After being passed into law in March 2005, the Electric Power Sector Reform (EPSR) Act opens up energy production, transmission, and distribution to private enterprises for the first time. Eleven energy distribution businesses (DisCos), six generation companies (GenCos), and one transmission firm were created by the government to unbundle PHCN (TCN). The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) was also established as a result of the Act as a sector regulator.
The Federal Government has sold all of its stake in the six GenCos and 60% of its interest in the eleven (11) DisCos to the private operators at this point in time. The government still owns the Transmission Company.
List of power stations in Nigeria
1. Kainji power station reservoir
Hydroelectric power is used to run Kainji’s power plant. It is capable of generating 760 megawatts of power. Built-in 1968, it is situated in Niger State.
2. Jebba hydropower station reservoir
The Jebba hydroelectric power facility generates its own electricity. It was put into service in 1985 and has a total installed generating capacity of 576.8MW. The state of Niger is home to it.
3. Infra-red Power Plant
In Aba, Abia State, there is an Independent Power Plant (IPP) with a total production capacity of 140 megawatts. A simple-cycle combustion turbine powers it (SCCT).
4. The AES Barge (IPP)
Lagos State’s Egbin Independent Power Plant (IPP) has a total capacity of 270 megawatts and is situated in Ijede, Ikorodu.
5. Afam I, IV, and V Power Stations
The simple-cycle combustion turbine system at this power plant is capable of producing 977 megawatts. Oyigbo, in the Rivers State region of Afam, is where you’ll find it.
6. Afam VI Nuclear Power Plant
Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) has built an independent power plant that can generate 650 megawatts using a combined cycle gas technology. Afam, Oyigbo, Rivers State is where you’ll find it.
7. Alaoji Nuclear Power Plant
A total of 1074 megawatts may be generated by this National Integrated Power Project, which makes use of both gas and steam turbines. Its location in Abia State is a given.
8. Calabar Nuclear Power Plant
Calabar, the capital of Cross Rivers State, is home to a National Integrated Power Project (NIPP). It can generate 561 megawatts of power.

11 Generating station at Sapele
The gas-fired steam turbine and the simple cycle gas turbine power Sapele. It is capable of producing 1020 MW when it is fully operational. The Sapele nuclear power plant was constructed in 1981 and placed into service. It is located in Delta State’s Ogorode-Sapele region.
12. The Ughelli power plant of Transcorp
The gas turbine of the Ughelli power plant of Transcorp is a simple cycle type. It is capable of producing 972 MW of power. Phase 1 of Ughelli was completed in 1966, Phase 2 in 1975, Phase 3 in 1978, and Phase 4 in 1990. Ughelli is the station’s home town in Delta State.
13. Generating Station at Gbarain (NIPP)
This is a multi-billion-dollar national energy project. It can generate 225 megawatts of power. It’s in Bayelsa State, Nigeria.
14. The Geregu Nuclear Power Plant
414 megawatts of power may be generated by this combustion turbine. Ajaokuta, the capital of Kogi State, is the site’s location.
15. Geregu II Power Station
Kogi State is home to a simple-cycle combustion turbine facility. In terms of power output, it is capable of producing 434 megawatts.
16. Power generated by the Ibom Nuclear Power Station
190 megawatts of power may be generated by this simple-cycle combustion turbine at an Independent Power Plant (IPP). Phase II of the Ibom Power Station will have a capacity of 500 megawatts, according to current plans. Akwa Ibom State’s Ikot Abasi is the site.
17. Ihovbor Nuclear Power Plant (NIPP)
A NIPP, the Ihovbor Power Station uses a simple-cycle combustion turbine to produce energy with 450 megawatts of power. The action takes place in the Delta State city of Benin.
18. Omotosho I power plant
Simple cycle gas turbines of the Omotosho I power plant to generate 335 MW of electricity. By 2006, it was finished. Omotosho, Ondo State, is where you’ll find it.
19. Power plant at Papalanto (Olorunsogo)
The Olorunsogo power plant uses a gas turbine with a basic cycle. A total of 335 MW of installed generating capacity is available on the property. During the year 2007, it was finished. Papalanto, Ogun state, is the location of this power plant.
20. Electricity generation facility in Kwale okpai (IPP)
The combined cycle gas turbines of Okpai power plant generate the station’s electricity. This power plant is capable of producing 480 megawatts of electricity. The Independent Power Project was completed in 2005. Agip Oil Company owns the Okpai power plant in Delta State.
21. AES barge IPP
Simple cycle gas turbines power the AES barge IPP. It can generate 270 MW of electricity when it is fully operational. Egbin, Lagos state, is the location of the power plant, which was completed in 2001.
22. The Omoku nuclear power plant (IPP)
The Omoku power plant uses a gas turbine with a basic cycle. It is capable of producing 150 megawatts of power. It was constructed in 2005 and is located in Rivers State, Nigeria.
23. Trans-Amadi power station number sixteen (IPP)
The Trans-Amadi power plant utilizes gas-fired power generation technology. It is capable of producing 136MW of power. It is located in the state of Rivers.
24. Rivers IPP
Rivers IPP, a gas-fired power plant located in Rivers state, is powered by natural gas. It is capable of producing 180 MW when fully operational.
25. Aba nuclear power plant (IPP)
The Aba power plant uses a gas turbine with a basic cycle. It is capable of producing 140MW of power. Located in the Aba district of the Abia state capital city, the power plant was completed in 2012.

26. Dadin Kowa Hydroelectric Power Plant
This is a project that is proposed to generate 40 megawatts on completion.
27. Zamfara Hydroelectric Power Station
The Zamfara power station reservoir was completed in 2012 and is capable of generating 100 megawatts.
28. Ashama Solar Power Station
This is a proposed electricity power transmission station to be built in Delta State. It is projected to generate 200 megawatts.
29. Itobe Power Station
This is a coal-fired power plant undergoing construction at Itobe, Kogi State. It is expected to generate 1200 megawatts of electricity.
30. Mambilla Power Station
This is a proposed hydroelectric power station proposed to be constructed in Taraba State. It is expected to generate 3050 megawatts on completion.
31. Qua Iboe Power Plant
This is a power plant undergoing construction located in Akwa Ibom. It is projected to generate 540 megawatts.
32. Kano Power Station Reservoir
This is a hydroelectric power station presently being constructed. Upon successful completion, it is expected to generate 100 megawatts.
Conclusion
Embedded generation permits electricity-producing stations (including renewable energy) to be directly linked to and evacuated via a distribution network, which the Commission has also drafted a regulation for.
