Civil disobedience and awareness

On September 5, 2015, Nnamdi Kanu delivered the keynote address at the World Igbo Congress in Los Angeles, when he said, “We need guns and we need bullets.” To protect himself against Fulani herdsmen assaults on Igbos, Kanu said in an interview with CNN dated June 2017 that he was seeking ammunition and firearms from a Nigerian organization in the United States for self-defence.

However, civil disobedience has been the primary method used by Kanu to press home his demand for the liberation of his people. According to Nnamdi Kanu, “I have faith that what we are striving for can be achieved peacefully” via the teachings of Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi.

I’m a fan of passive resistance. Our situation is unique, so why would it not work? They both tried it, and it worked for them both. Civil disobedience, a secret resistance movement, and a statement of our hatred for Nigeria and all it stands for.” For his views on election boycotts, local Nigerian politicians attacked him. He then went on to say that his situation was “signed, sealed, and delivered” after urging Biafrans to vote, despite his earlier demand for a boycott. Some saw it as a sign that he was open to new ideas and perspectives.
