1. The calculators transmit nothing
This is the most important thing in this policy, so it comes first. Every calculator on this site is written in JavaScript and executes on your own device. When you enter a figure into a field, that value stays in your browser's memory. It is not sent to us over the network, not written to any database, not logged and not visible to any person including us. Closing or refreshing the page discards it entirely.
That applies without exception to every tool, including the ones handling the most sensitive information: your salary, your bank loan, your grades, the text you paste into the word counter, and the passwords produced by the password generator.
This is also why there are no user accounts on this site. There would be nothing to attach one to.
The one thing we do record about tool usage is an anonymous daily count of how many times each calculator page was opened. It contains a slug and a number, nothing else. No figures, no identifiers, no link to any person. It exists so we know which tools are worth maintaining and expanding, and it is what powers the popular list on the tools index.
2. What we collect, and why
Information you choose to give us
Contact form. When you write to us we collect the name, email address, subject and message you provide. We use them to reply to you and to keep a record of the correspondence. We do not add your address to any mailing list and we do not share it.
Data submissions. When you report a price to our data section we collect the dataset, the state, the city or area, your description, the amount, the period, any note you add and the date. We deliberately do not ask for, and never collect, your name, email address, phone number, employer, exact address or anything else that identifies you. A submission cannot be traced back to a person because we never hold anything to trace it to.
Article reactions. If you react to an article we store an anonymous identifier in a cookie so the same reaction is not counted twice. It carries no personal information.
Information collected automatically
Server logs. Like every website, our host records requests, including IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. These are used for security, abuse prevention and diagnosing faults.
Rate limiting. We store the IP address attached to a data submission or a contact message for a short period, solely to stop automated flooding of the forms. It is not used to identify or profile anyone.
Analytics. We record aggregate visit counts so we can see which pages are useful. This is statistical and not used to build a profile of individual visitors.
3. Cookies and advertising
We use cookies for a small number of things: keeping a session working while you use a form, preventing duplicate reactions, and security. These are necessary for the site to function correctly.
We also display advertising, which is how the site is funded and why everything on it is free. Advertising is served by third parties, including Google. Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve advertisements based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings at google.com/settings/ads. You can also opt out of third party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices.
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings. Blocking advertising cookies will not stop you seeing ads, but the ads you see will be less relevant. Blocking all cookies may prevent some forms on this site from working.
4. What we never do
- We do not sell your personal information to anyone, for any purpose.
- We do not transmit, store or read the figures you enter into any calculator on this site.
- We do not ask for names, employers or contact details in data submissions, so we never hold them.
- We do not operate user accounts, so there is no profile, password or login history to compromise.
- We do not add contact form addresses to marketing lists.
- We do not accept payment to recommend a product, institution or service in our editorial content.
5. Sharing with third parties
We share information only where it is necessary: with our hosting provider, which processes requests to serve the site; with advertising partners, as described above; and where the law requires it or where it is needed to protect the rights, safety or property of the site or its readers.
This site contains links to external sites. Once you follow such a link you are governed by that site's privacy policy rather than ours, and we have no control over how they handle your information. We encourage you to read the policy of any site you visit that collects information from you.
6. How long we keep things
Contact messages are kept while the matter is open and for a reasonable period afterwards as a record, then deleted. Approved data submissions remain published as long as they are useful, and always carry the date they were reported so their age is visible. Rejected submissions are deleted. IP addresses collected for rate limiting are retained briefly. Server logs are held according to our host's retention schedule.
7. Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Because we deliberately collect so little, the answer is often that we hold nothing. If you have used only the calculators, we hold nothing about you at all.
To remove a data submission you made, describe roughly what and when you submitted and we will find it and delete it. Since submissions are anonymous by design, we cannot look them up by your name, so please give as much detail as you can.
To have a contact message deleted, write to us and say so. All requests go through our contact page.
8. Children
This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Security and location
We take reasonable technical measures to protect the limited information we hold, including transport encryption and restricted administrative access. No transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but the practical risk here is unusually low because we hold so little.
The site is operated from Nigeria and our servers may be located elsewhere. By using the site you consent to your information being processed in the country where our infrastructure is hosted.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site changes or the law does. The date at the top always reflects the current version. Material changes will be made clear on the page rather than slipped in quietly. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
Questions about any of this? Write to us through the contact page and we will answer plainly. You may also want to read our terms and conditions and our disclaimer.
